Every motorcyclist encounters “conservation” of the bike at night every year, which is usually accompanied by the removal of the battery and its storage. The service life and characteristics of acbs in general depend in part on storage conditions. Is it necessary to store lithium power sources periodically? The average user does not often encounter this, but fans of electric scooters, electric scooters and electric bicycles annually, like motorcyclists, “store” their equipment.
Electric transport USES lithium-ion batteries collected from 18650 cylindrical cells connected in one circuit. Despite the fact that element 18650 is the most common consumable and is inexpensive, a whole assembly of many elements can have a decent price. Therefore, it is natural to want to ensure a long battery life, so that rarely efforts are made to maintain the equipment and spend on new acbs.
Factors influencing the life of li-ion battery
First of all, the life of any battery depends on its quality. If the manufacturer USES quality components and does not violate the technology, the akb’s estimated resource will be higher and vice versa. And already within the estimated resource, depending on the quality of the product, there may be significant deviations related to the operating conditions.
Each battery has operating requirements and, oddly enough, for most types of batteries they are similar. Here are general points about what affects the life cycle of acb:
Compliance with current conditions;
Ambient temperature;
Avoidance of overcharge or deep discharge;
The proper storage.
As a rule, the user does not have to worry about current modes and recharge of lithium-ion batteries, especially when using the original charger. This is due to the BMS controller, which is mandatory for the assembly of lithium-ion cells and serves for the control of parameters and balancing of cells. And how to properly store lithium-ion batteries – we will discuss further.
Features of storage li-ion batteries
The first thing that interests the average user is how to properly store the battery: charged or discharged. If you put it bluntly, the answer is neither that nor that. Full discharge of the battery is permitted only in cases of further cyclic operation. If you plan to charge the battery and then store it, you do not need to fully charge it. Some do so for the reason that the battery can lie down longer and self-discharge without user intervention. It borders on the truth, but the battery life, in this case, will decrease and after storage the lithium-ion battery will not give out the characteristics that gave before storage. They’re not much, but they’ll fall. A fully charged battery for a long time is almost as bad as a fully charged battery.
In order for the battery to be fully or almost completely recharged, a partial charge should be provided. Much is said about the need to provide 35-50% charge level before saving the battery, while causing a voltage of 3.4-3.5v. How do you get these Numbers? A simple arithmetic mean between the minimum and maximum voltage of the lithium ion supply (2.8-4.2b). Only this does not take into account the fact that in most gadgets, such as smartphones, li-ion battery runs in the conventional range from 3.5 v (zero charge) to 4.2 v (full charge). That is, the voltage, which is recommended by many as optimal for storage, is virtually unattainable in operation and considered too low. It is also worth taking into account the fact that manufacturers supply their lithium-ion batteries with a voltage of 3.7v. Having added “two plus two” we conclude that the lithium-ion cell is better stored at its nominal voltage of 3.7v. If you accidentally charged the acb to its maximum, it is better to partially discharge it with natural load.
How long is the lithium-ion battery? In theory, the battery can be stored for its entire life, but with regular maintenance. It is recommended to check battery voltage every 3 months and recharge to the optimum value.
Thanks to the above procedure you will not only maintain ideal voltage during the storage life, but also prevent deep discharge, which is the worst condition of any battery. Very often due to an oversight battery goes down “at zero”, simply lying idle. Every month the tank falls irretrievably and after some time the power supply fails irretrievably.
In addition to the level of charge, it is worth taking care of the temperature. Temperature is what affects the battery, whether the power source is used or simply stored. In a dependency
